There are indeed two plants in nature very similar, both by the shape of their leaves by the colors of their flowers, one is called geranium (Geranium macrorhizum, usually wild, belonging to the family Geraniaceae), and the other pelargonium (Pelargonium or capitalum, scented geranium), is from the same family.
